Free tool

Find the leaks in your own bank statement, in about ten seconds.

Drop in a CSV export from your bank and this runs 4 of the 25 checks the paid software runs: possible duplicate payments, supplier charges that keep rising, what your bank is charging you, and where your money actually goes.

Your statement never leaves this page. It is read, checked and discarded inside your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and no email is asked for. Turn off your wi-fi and it still works.

Drop your statement here

A PDF statement from your bank, or a CSV export. With a PDF, every row is checked against the running balance your statement prints — if the reading does not tie, you are told, rather than shown figures that were guessed.

Questions

About this tool

Is my statement really not uploaded?

Really. The whole thing runs in JavaScript in your own tab — the same place your bank’s website runs. You can disconnect from the internet after this page loads and it still works, which is the easiest way to prove it to yourself.

What formats does it take?

A PDF statement from your bank, or a CSV export. A CSV reads exactly. A PDF has to be interpreted — text comes out of a PDF as fragments with coordinates, and turning those back into rows is guesswork — so every row is checked against the running balance your statement prints, and you are told how many tied. If too few tie, the result is withheld rather than shown.

What if my statement is a scan?

Then it has no text in it, only a picture of text, and this tool says so instead of guessing. Reading scans needs character recognition, which belongs in the paid report where the result is checked, not in a free tool where nobody would know it had gone wrong.

Why only four checks?

These are the four that a bank statement alone can support honestly. Everything else — whether your books tie, what your margin is, what you can afford — needs figures a statement does not contain. Running them anyway would mean guessing, and a guessed figure in a financial report is worse than no figure.

Can I send the result to my accountant?

Yes. Print this page, or save it as a PDF from the print dialog: the findings and the transactions behind them are laid out for it, and the tool’s limits print with them so nobody reads more into it than it says.
